While preparing for the upcoming NFL draft, I am struck by how often we hear the draft pundits refer to the “modern day linebacker”: a player who’d be considered undersized by traditionalists but whose speed and agility allow him to cover a wide area and be utilized in a variety of ways. As offensive schemes and rules evolve to promote offense in 5-wide, empty backfield configurations, the defenders, particularly linebackers, are forced to be hybrid-type players. 2018 draft picks Roquan Smith and Leighton Vander Esch are examples of these hybrid-type players who can stop the run in a 3-4 as well as cover the tight-end in a nickel package
As an avid football fan, I can’t help but draw parallels between the modern day linebacker and EMA. In the medium voltage service world, there exists a myth that says “Size is better” and much like the modern day linebacker is proving, this isn’t always the case. In the game of production, downtime is often the killer; if a Medium Voltage VFD is down, the process is down, and the plant is no longer producing. In situations like this (like when the running back is going out for a pass from the backfield), your service arm must have the speed to handle the situation and the agility to react when things change.
The large manufacturers of medium voltage drives are often hindered by their size, limiting their ability to respond to customer’s needs quickly and adapt when an audible is thrown their way. EMA is the modern day linebacker of medium voltage VFD service. Our “undersized” company thrives on responding quickly and doing whatever it takes to get the customer running. Don’t be fooled: a manufacturers’ primary focus is selling product, and service is a necessary and often under-developed evil in their eyes; it often is nothing more than a means to sell more product. EMA works differently; we survive and thrive on speed and adaptability. Because we don’t manufacture anything, we’re agnostic in our approach, giving you the best resource for an honest evaluation of what is wrong and the best way to resolve it.
At the risk of this backfiring, I’d like to invite you to participate in a little challenge (a VFD service combine if you will). Try and call one of the big manufacturers for Medium Voltage VFD service and then call EMA; I guarantee you your experience with EMA will be much better. Our goal is to eliminate the hurdles and hoops of Medium Voltage VFD service that will drive one crazy when production is down. Like the modern day linebacker, speed is one of our major assets and we utilize it well.
