EMA designs and supplies specially built DC to AC Converters which are used in a variety of applications. One common application is with underground transit systems such as the NYC Subway system. Deep within the subway system, the maintenance personnel often need AC power. Running a gas powered generator isn't practical due to the closed in spaces, and running extension cables is impractical due to the lengths. Having a portable unit that can be powered directly from the 600 volts DC "third rail" is a convenient and safe way to provide this power. Some people refer to these as DC to AC Inverters. Other possible applications are providing AC to run the air conditioning within the cabs of DC cranes, and converting the DC outputs of solar, wind, and fuel cell generators to a more usable AC voltage. Our standard units have been tested by the NYC Transit Authority and the Chicago Transit Authority. These units can be either stationary or portable. DC Power Conversion equipment: also designed and built by EMA, is used to change the DC voltage to a different level. For instance, a DC voltage can be either "boosted" to a higher level, or "bucked" to a lower level. We do this by utilizing a power transistor chopper configuration, which is very efficient (low loss) and adjustable. This equipment is also used in a variety of applications, including alternative power generating systems, such as fuel cells, solar, and wind power. It can also be part of a battery, fuel cell, or solar panel emulator system used in test equipment. Looking for a Battery Charger / Emulator for Electric Vehicle test and development? EMA can design and build intelligent Vehicle Battery Chargers that can communicate to the Vehicle via J1939 or J1705 communications protocols. Need more? Lets us help you design a complete test platform with control, monitoring and report generation capabilities! These are specialty products, and we often custom build them for specific applications. Want to know more about this, or have a possible application you want to discuss? Email Ron Julian at rjulian@emainc.net and give him the rudiments of what you're looking for OR call him at 570-450-5600. EMA is very cost effective in these products and systems.
