Carbon Neutral I know what you're thinking, but at EMA, we try to stay atop emerging technologies. Using variable speed drives to save energy is hardly a new concept, in fact, the majority of AC Drives sold on pumps and fans were probably applied with that as the primary motivation. But, that might not be enough anymore, so at EMA we've been working on a better solution. Most of you are probably aware of the trend now being publicized by former Vice President Gore and others of "carbon offsets." In a nutshell, if you are unable or unwilling to curb your own carbon emissions, then you can pay someone else to reduce the emissions by an equal amount, hence offsetting the ones you produce. Here's what EMA is now offering: For only $.25 per pound, you can purchase carbon offsets from EMA. You can roughly figure that 2.19 lbs of CO2 are produced by every kilowatt hour your drives consume. That means that a 100 HP drive, operating at 60% load, 24 hours per day, will produce about 70,000 lbs of CO2 per month. You can offset that with EMA by paying us $17,500.00 per month. How would we offset it? Well, just like Mr. Gore and others, we don't want to be too specific (trade secrets you know) but I'll give you a rough outline. At EMA we get numbers of service calls all over the United States every day. When people call us, their drives are not running, hence, not using energy. Instead of rushing out and repairing them in our usual efficient manner, we'll refer them to our competitors instead. That way, the drives will stay down, and will thereby offset the CO2 emissions that your drives are producing. We have the databases running to calculate this pretty closely, and we'll give you a monthly report. I'm sure that many of you view this with great suspicion, perhaps even thinking of it as a scam, but that's because you don't fully understand the virtual worldview, where anything that's said by a famous person, and mentions math, is true. Failing to grasp the virtual worldview continues to be responsible for dangerous and illogical thinking leading to silly questions. Like for instance, "how is CO2 a poison, being that every living creature produces and exhales it every moment of every day?" and "don't plants need CO2 in great quantities to live?" Those are silly and shortsighted questions. Of course that's an inconvenient truth at the moment, but people a lot smarter than you are working on it (and they will mention math). One idea is that genetic engineering will resolve this problem one day by having us exhale only earth friendly hydrogen. One side benefit of that approach is that it will selectively eliminate people that smoke by blowing their heads off when they light up. In the short term, using the carbon offset principle, its been proposed that every living person should kill someone of equal size. As I said, these problems are being worked out, and you shouldn't worry about them.
